Steppingstone Scholars Summer Programs provided several opportunities to 56 Maguire Scholars this past summer.

Eight 5th-6th grade students participated in Academy 6.This is the summer component of Steppingstone’s 14-month preparation of Scholars for placement in high quality schools in 6th grade. These students participated in intensive academic enrichment in core academic subjects and a robotics course.

Eight 5th-7th graders participated in the Summer STEAM Academy, which is the summer academic and career exposure component of Steppingstone’s Neighborhood Initiatives. The program is focused on advanced math classes, project-based learning, and career exposure.

24 7th-10th graders participated in Step it Up! This summer academic enrichment program included six academic and leadership classes per day with college career exposure tours and robotics. This summer also included an enrichment day that focused on leadership and skill building.

Nine 9th-12th grade students participated in the Blended Learning Initiative, a four-week advanced programming and robotics program that aims to expose underserved students to advanced physics, math, and coding, and career options.

• Seven 11th-12th grade students participated in Internships. Internship sites included PECO, Office of State Representative Jordan Harris, Office of State Representative Donna Bullock, Generocity.

Check out the Robotics students in action! In this challenge, Steppingstone Blended Learning Initiative students had to run their robot through the challenge maze, demonstrating their understanding of math, physics and coding of sensors and manipulators. The team with the shortest completion time won.
